Courses are tailored to suit your requirements and paced according to your level of progress, after all we all learn at different speeds and in different ways. Training for absolute beginners is always delivered on a one-to-one basis as I need to give you my full and undivided attention. Ordinarily for students who have mastered the basics of tool control I can offer two-to-one but due to Covid-19 considerations, two-to-one is only available to those from the same household or 'Bubble'. In a 'normal' world, I can also provide local one to one training in your own workshop helping you to get the most from your own lathe and turning tools, however due to Covid-19 considerations this is not currently an option, hopefully this will return in due course.
I have invested in making the workshop Covid-19 safe, measures including additional PPE, safety screens, dedicated tools and workshop space. All students will be presented with a detailed risk assessment covering the risks and preventative measures in place particularly in relation to Covid-19 in advance of confirming the booking.
Please contact me to discuss your requirements as all training is tailored meet your requirements. Beginners training is always one to one, I can accommodate two more experienced students from the same household or 'Bubble'. Training on a basis of £20 per hour, £75 for a half day (4 hours) or £150 for a full day 9 to 5 , a 25% discount will be applied for two students
Alison succesfully completed her 1st introduction lesson and progressed to turning a fine spalted London Plane bowl for as a gift for her son.
"I have had a wonderful time, designing, and working on my bowl under the watchful eye of Rick.
It has been the most satisfying achievement and Rick has inspired and encouraged me to keep learning and improving my technique. I can't wait to do more!"
"Ricks easy to understand and positive approach to teaching gave me the confidence to use the tools and machinery to produce a nice stem vase.
I really enjoyed the time, Thankyou. "
"I had a great day on Saturday, it was both very useful & enjoyable. My wife asked me if the time had dragged & I said anything but! Anyway, thank you again, a great day"
" The session ended sometime after 5 and by the time photos of my with my new pieces had been taken in the garden and my car was loaded it was nearer to 6 when I finally left. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding day. I left feeling confident that I could turn without continual jags and keep my tools sharp. Rick and his wife made me very welcome with coffee breaks throughout the day. I would recommend a course with Rick to anyone wanting to improve their technique with a professional turner "
